Keighley Albion U13 Blacks 52 - 4 Moldgreen
Another fine day at Crossflats and the pitch was looking in top top condition thanks to 'Deeks' who is our club groundsman. Todays opposition are a well drilled outfit which is what you would expect from a team who's coach is a Super League Star.
We started off well with a cheeky run in from dummy half by our quick fire hooker Jack Beck. However within a couple of minutes, Moldgreen hit back with a try of their own from a high ball which caused us all sorts of problems before the away player gathered it up to score. Isaac Middleton was again the pick of our forwards early doors with his barnstorming running. Joe Preistley and the Denton twins equally impressed with their strong running. Our next try was scored by Kyle Horne who Sam Wild picked out on the left edge with a perfectly timed pass which sent Kyle in to score. This was closely followed by Isaac Denton who sped in from 50 meters out to score a great wingers try. In junior rugby sometimes it takes a while to find kids their natural position but I am in no doubt that both Dentons are out and out wingers and have settled in really well in their first season. With Charlie Savage in 'Savage' form with the boot, scores were 18 - 4 at half time.
The second half is where we turned up the heat, first Kyle Horne scooted in from a scrum then Jack Beck weaved past 4 players to score. Although it didnt stop there, as we scored four more tries from Isaac Denton, Sean Egerton, Cobi Denton and Charlie Savage in a dominant display. Isaac and Cobi Denton's tries were awesome, both from distance, coming in from their respective wings to get the ball. It is not just their speed but the strength in running through a tackle which makes them stand out, well done lads great game. Sean Egerton’s try was straight from a kick off, he ran straight through the middle and continued all the way under the sticks to score, after this try, Moldgreens heads were down and out. Charlie Savage got our teams last try by galloping down the right edge in typical style. Final score 52 - 4. I would like to add that Jacob Davies had his best game this season, in the second half he caused Moldgreen some real issues and deserves recognition for this, well done Jacob.
It seems to be the case now that teams give us everything they've got in the first half, we weather the storm and then motor away in the second half. Be in no doubt, teams are talking about us as the team to beat and thats why we get a lot of pressure early doors as they try to break our resilience. What people are finding out is that we have a special team here, we are very fast, very strong and very very resilient with great attitudes. The one thing that sets us apart from anyone else in the league (possibly the entire league) is that we can score from anywhere on the pitch, at any time by any of our backs and that is what makes us extra special,
As parents and coaches, we equally have an important job this season and that is to keep them grounded as they are not superstars just yet and we have won nothing. They need to keep the intensity and keep getting up for every game as though its a final because any of the teams out there can turn us over if we adopt a lackluster attitude which can easily set in when complacent. No signs of that yet though so lets keep on smiling.
Next up, The Graveyard. Grit your teeth and hold on to your hats folks, if youve not been there before your in for a mighty treat
